With a grand fairytale wedding spread over 15 days of celebration in Karachi, Pakistan’s popular politician; Sharmila Faruqui tied the knot with long time beau Hisham Riaz; a former banker and now the owner of a local news channel ‘Capital Tv’.
Sharmila has got to be the most popular PPP member across the media, and seeing her countless appearances it was pretty obvious from what she wore that the girl always did have a flair for eastern fashion. And hence her wedding constituted no less than the dream team of Pakistan! It had to be the best; with dresses by Bunto Kazmi, make-up by Mariam Khawaja and photography by the country’s numerous top notch photographers including the very popular and very talented Irfan Ahson who flew in from Lahore, it was like a mini bridal couture week with Sharmila as the show stopper every. single. day!
So what did this beautiful damsel wear? Let me guide you through!
The dress code for the bridal shower was sarees and Sharmila adorned a beautiful pink and orange chunri saree with a very intricately embellished border.
The real wedding festivities began with the ghazal night with Sharmila wearing a very traditional marigold yellow and mint green outfit by Faiza Samee.
For the mayoun Sharmila chose a multi-coloured tukdri effect sharara with a plain yellow shirt by Bunto Kazmi.
Next up was the Roberto Cavalli themed qawalli night (the very obvious pun!) for which Sharmila wore an exquisitely detailed outfit by Ali Xeeshan.
For her ‘Sharmila ki prem gali’ themed Sindhi mehndi, Sharmila wore a beautiful bright green peshwas and blue churidaar by Bunto Kazmi paired with gina heels and full loaded traditional jewellery. Make up was by Mariam Khawaja.
The nikkah ceremony was held with Sharmila wearing a slightly more delicate pale grey gharara with red accents by Bunto Kazmi, topped off with jewellery in rubies and diamonds.
For the rukhsati, Sharmila went for a completely fuss free and serious business sort of a lehnga. A beautiful shade of red, beautiful handwork, no contrasts, no accents just the perfect beautiful red! By Bunto Kazmi ofcourse and laden in pure soild gold jewellery including a matha patti. This kind of jewellery is very hard to pull off in this day and age, she managed well! Make-up by the ever so talented Mariam Khawaja.
In another event held after the rukhsati, Sharmila looked radiant in a Faaiza Samee chatta patti lehnga.
The walima was held in Lahore with Sharmila looking her ever best and simply gorgeous! Another solid coloured gold lehnga with intense handwork crafted by Bunto Kazmi and diamonds completing her look!
So that was probably the longest bridal diaries blogpost till date! Here’s wishing the couple a blissful new beginning!
